Let’s Talk About Hope

Even if you’re not spiritual…even if you don’t read scripture…even if you don’t believe the way I believe…the word HOPE still carries power.

Hope is what keeps a person moving when life tries to stop them.It’s the quiet belief that tomorrow can be better than what you’re facing today.

Recently, I started reading Lamentations 3:21–23, and it taught me that even in deep pain, God’s mercy still reaches for us. It shows that suffering is real, loss is real, grief is real — but so is His compassion.

There was a time, many years ago, when I was angry with my mom because she made the decision to sign a DNR. At that moment, I thought she had lost hope. I didn’t understand how someone could be tired enough to stop fighting.

But as I got older, I matured.I realized she wasn’t giving up on life — she was giving up on suffering.

She stayed long enough to build a stronger relationship with us.She stayed long enough to love us through her pain.She stayed long enough to leave peace behind.

And the time she lost with us… she got it back.But that made losing her even harder.

She didn’t lose hope.She held onto it in the only way she could.

Through everything I’ve lived through, God showed me that HOPE is more than a word — it’s a reminder.

I came up with what each letter means to me, and I pray it helps you too:

H — His LoveThe love that covers me and carries me.

O — The Obstacles we will faceBecause life will test us, but God strengthens us.

P — His PromisesThe ones He made long before I ever knew I’d need them.

E — His Everlasting LoveThe love that never runs out, never changes, never fails.

That’s why I hold on.That’s why I keep going.That’s why hope still lives in me.

Lord, thank You for the hope that refuses to die in us.When life feels heavy, lift our spirits again.Strengthen our hearts, steady our minds,and let Your mercy meet us every morning.Help us hold on to hope, because in the end,You are still there — never letting go of us.Amen.
